About Our Practice
Health Check Physical Therapy, an independently owned and operated outpatient physical therapy clinic, serves communities in and around Chester County, PA. Since established in Downingtown in 2002, Health Check Physical Therapy’s location has proven convenient for many residents of Chester County. This is especially true for residents living in Downingtown, Exton, Lionville, Thorndale and neighboring communities.
About Our Owner
Tom Suspenski, PT, ATC, owner and founder of Health Check Physical Therapy, is a graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University. While his education at SUNY is important, especially noteworthy is the reputation Tom earned over more than 25 years. Specifically, Tom is known for providing exceptional orthopedic and sports physical therapy to the residents of Chester County.
In his capacity as a licensed physical therapist (PT), Tom regularly collaborates with many of the most renowned orthopedic surgeons throughout the Chester County area as well as the Main Line and Philadelphia areas.
Tom has proven himself particularly effective in mobilizing the spine, sacroiliac joint, shoulder, hip, knee and ankle. This is due to his ability to identify joint and soft tissue dysfunction. Often joint and soft tissue dysfunction causes individuals to rely on periodic injections. Alternatively, they resign themselves to a life with pain. For these individuals, the manual techniques Tom employs offer a far better option.
Certified Athletic Trainer
As a certified athletic trainer (ATC), Tom possesses insight and perspective broader than many licensed physical therapists. Noteworthy is that fact that Tom worked with many professional athletes including members of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pennsylvania Ballet.
Former Coach
Outside of his current professional responsibilities, Tom has experience coaching high school sports. Coaching gave Tom additional insight into the needs of athletes and other active people, all of whom share a strong sense of urgency regarding timely, appropriate care.
Experience coaching high school sports stems from the fact that Tom is also a graduate of West Chester University.
Direct Access Provider
Due to additional certification, Tom is one of a limited number of physical therapists in the Commonwealth of PA permitted to operate as a Direct Access Physical Therapy provider. Consequently, Tom can evaluate and treat you for many conditions without a physician’s prescription. Equally important is the fact that many medical insurance companies honor this form of treatment the same as treatment provided with physician’s prescription.
